Turbulence

Turbulence - 3D Animated Short Film - NCCA Bournemouth University from Jennifer Routh on Vimeo.

"‘Turbulence’ tells the story of a fictional folk tale about the origin of a thunderstorm. The film focuses on the character of Lightning as she scales the mountain to confront Thunder at its peak. Designs were inspired by Nigerian landscapes, the Drakensberg in South Africa, and the Yoruba traditions of North Nigeria."

As my final film for my masters at Bournemouth University, I had the great opportunity to work with my very talented classmates Jennifer Routh and Anna Maria Glover to make this short film.  Inspired by League of Legends', "Get Jinxed" music video and the blend between 3D animation and 2D animation, we were eager to try it out for ourselves and push the boundaries of our skills and what we've learned.  The three of us each had a different focus in the making of the film, and it was a good challenge to make sure that we could not only complete our tasks, but that we could also keep up with each other.

My roles in this film were: Character Designer, Storyboard Artist, 3D Character Animation, 2D Effects Animation, and Rigging

Karma's a Witch

Karma's A Witch from Karen Wood on Vimeo.

A little witch is patiently waiting at a bus stop when a couple of bullies decide to pick on her.

I did this little animated story as part of the MANIMATE 2012 24 Hour Animation Challenge event.  We were given the theme "trickery" when it started and this is what I created around that theme.  Character designs, storyboards, layout, animation, compositing and even the music was done by me.

The screaming and crunching sound effects were from freesfx.co.uk

This is the film I completed independantly in my 4th and final year at Sheridan College.  From story development and story boarding to drawing and painting layouts, all the rough and colored animation as well as the compositing and sound editing was done by myself.  I also did all the voice acting and other vocal noises.

Old age home resident Apollo reflects on the biggest triumphs and disappointment of his life with Gloria, his care taker. When the chance to set things straight presents itself, will he take it?

This is the film that I worked to complete in my 3rd year at Sheridan College along with a group of my classmates.  I was one of the heads in charge of story boarding and completed half of the final boards that were then tied down so we could start animating.  I have put in annotations in the video to show all of the scenes that I completed and assisted with.  This was my first time voice acting but I had fun doing the voices for the Group Hugs logo guys as well as Gloria, the female lead.
